Here I tried to get the essence of rain from the vast store of bollywood songs. These songs are purely based on my taste of music. Please remember that I am nowhere competent to rank these music maestros, hence please please please… consider this as a personal collection and enjoy.
1. Pyar Hua Iqraar Hua ~ Shree 420 (1955)
Beautifully filmed by the Showman Raj Kapoor, this song is an all-time favorite rain song of Bollywood. The unforgettable image of Raj Kapoor and Nargis under the umbrella flashes back in front of my eyes every time I listen this song. Beautifully sung by Mnna Dey and Lata Mangeshkar under music composition of Shankar Jaikishen this song tops the chart of my favorite rain songs.
2. Ek Ladki Bhigi Bhagi Si ~ Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)
Filmed on the naughty Kishore Kumar and the classic beauty Madhubala, this song is always popular in the masses and a preferred rain song for music lovers. Kishore Kumar sung it exceptionally under the music composing of Sachin Dev Burman.
3. Ab Ki Sawan Mein ~ Jaise Ko Taisa (1973)
Filmed on Jeetendra and Reena Roy this song is a peppy number. Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar sung this beautiful song exceptionally under the music composition of Rahul Dev Burman.
4. Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein ~ Ajnabee (1974)
Filmed on Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman this song depicts the feeling of two lovers enjoying the monsoon nights. Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar sung this beautiful song exceptionally under the music composition of Rahul Dev Burman.
5. Rimjhim Gire Sawan ~ Manzil (1979)
Filmed on Amitabh Bachhan and Mausumi Chatterjee the female version of this song was beautifully sung by Lata Mangeshkar under the music composition of Rahul Dev Burman. There was a male version too exceptionally sung by Kishore Kumar.
6. Aaj Rapat Jayein ~ Namak Halaal (1982)
In this song Amitabh Bachaan and Smita Patil created the magic on silver screen… this is an all time favorite rain duet beautifully and seductively sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. The song is composed by Bappi Lahiri and beautifully filmed by the famous director Prakash Mehra.
7. Kaate Nahin Kat-te ~ Mr. India (1987)
Sizzling Sridevi drenched in Rain in this love sequence with the invisible Anil Kapoor… this is an all time favorite rain duet beautifully and seductively sung by Kishore Kumar and Alisha Chinai and beautifully filmed by the famous director Sekhar Kapur.
8. Lagi Aaj Sawan Ki Phir Woh Jhadi ~ Chandni (1989)
filmed by Yash Chopra this song depicts the pain of a broken heart during rainy nights. Composed by Shiv-Hari (Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasiya) and written by Anand Bakshi this song was beautifully sung by Suresh Wadkar and picturised on Vinod Khanna and Sridevi. The classical touch by both the maestros is clearly visible from the melody of this song.
9. Megha Re Megha ~ Lamhe (1991)
Completing the triology, once again sizzling Sridevi showed her acting skills in this rajasthani number from the movie Lamhe, directed by Yash Chopra. Composed by Shiv-Hari (Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasiya) and written by Anand Bakshi this song was beautifully sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
10. Barso Re Megha ~ Guru (2007)
Aishwarya Rai sizzled in this song elegantly filmed by Mani Rathnam. This is an outstanding rain song composed by A. R. Rahman and exceptionally sung by Shreya Ghosal.
